Confucius
When it comes to living a virtuous, meaningful life in harmony with others, few philosophers have left a bigger legacy than Confucius. Born in 551 BC in the state of Lu (modern-day China), Confucius was a teacher, thinker, and advisor who believed that personal character and moral example were the keys to a just society. He wandered from court to court offering guidance to rulers, yet his true impact came later, as generations of scholars built on his teachings. His philosophy, known as Confucianism, shaped the culture, politics, and ethics of East Asia for centuries. Though he didn’t write much himself, his students recorded his sayings in what became the foundational Confucian text: the Analects.
