Laozi
Mysterious, poetic, and profoundly influential, Laozi (also spelled Lao Tzu) is the legendary Chinese sage behind the philosophy of Taoism. Said to have lived sometime in the 6th century BC, Laozi is shrouded in myth—some even debate whether he was a single historical figure or a symbolic name for a group of thinkers. What we do have is the Tao Te Ching, a short yet powerful book that distills his worldview into 81 verses. Laozi speaks softly but carries deep truths: about nature, power, ego, and the flow of life. Where Confucius seeks order through roles and virtue, Laozi embraces the unpredictable current of existence, inviting us to align with it rather than fight it.
